The American Land Title Association (ALTA) plays a vital role in advancing and protecting the escrow and title insurance industry at both the national and state levels. This education session will provide an overview of ALTA’s mission, priorities, and current initiatives that support escrow and title professionals. Attendees will learn how ALTA advocates on key legislative and regulatory issues, develops industry best practices and standards, and provides education and resources to strengthen professionalism, consumer protection, and the future of the industry. Participants will leave with a better understanding of ALTA’s impact and how industry professionals can stay engaged and informed.

David Townsend is senior vice president at Fidelity National Financial Family of Companies. Previously, he founded Agents National Title Insurance Co. Townsend is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law and Drury University and has many years of experience in the areas of real estate and title law. He has taught Title Insurance Practice at the University of Missouri School of Law and is a speaker for the American Land Title Association, Mortgage Bankers Association, October Research Seminars and other continuing education seminars. He is a current member of the American Land Title Association’s Board of Governors and the Chairman of the Underwriters Section. Townsend is the author of the Missouri Bar Insurance Practice Series: “Title Insurance” and the Missouri Bar Journal article “Mechanics Lien Law: Section 429.016 establishes New Notice Requirements.” He was awarded the National Title Professional designation in 2013 by the American Land Title Association. He is married to Kerry Townsend, has one daughter, Blair and one son, Charlie, and lives in Columbia, Mo.
